CEBU CITY – The city government of Danao has prohibited the entry of hogs into the city as part of the strict measures to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF).
Danao Mayor Mix Durano has issued an executive order (EO) calling for strict biosecurity control and measures.
“The City Government of Danao issued EO No. 23, Series of 2023, establishing strict biosecurity and control measures among hog raisers, traders, and other individuals or institutions involved in the hog/pig industry,” Durano said.
Durano said the EO intends to prevent the spread of ASF and other swine diseases within the territorial jurisdiction of the city.
“The order prohibits the entry of live hogs and any pork-related meat products, both processed and cooked, from hog raisers, suppliers, or traders outside the city, except for free passage entering and exiting the city's territorial jurisdiction,” he said.
The order also constitutes the Barangay African Swine Fever Task Force (BASF-TF) composed of various barangay officials to monitor and report ASF or hog cholera-related cases to the City Veterinary Services and Abattoir Operations.
Slaughtering of pigs will only be allowed at the city abattoir.
“By implementing these measures, the City Government of Danao strives to safeguard the hog industry and promote the welfare of its constituents,” Durano said.
