49 NPA supporters surrender in Northern, Eastern Samar
TACLOBAN CITY – Forty-nine members of underground mass organizations (UGMO) withdrew support to the New People’s Army during the Holy Week in Northern Samar and Eastern Samar.
Brig. Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, Police Regional Office-8 chief, lauded their surrender which he said was the result of joint negotiations between the community and the police and military in the Samar provinces.
“To put an end to this false propaganda once and for all, we will continue to urge other CTG members to turn themselves into the authorities and lay down their arms,” Marbil said.
Forty-six of the surrenderers, including a 70-year-old individual, yielded in Barangay Capacujan, Palapag, Northern Samar.
Some barangay officials and health workers under the command of alias “Raz” or “Dodong” also surrendered to the authorities.
Two barangay officials from Barangay Laurel, Gen. MacArthur, Eastern Samar surrendered in Barangay Buenavista, Quinapondan, Eastern Samar, and one from Barangay Cal-igang, Catarman, Northern Samar.
UGMOs have been established by the communist movement to further and assist armed atrocities and other group actions.
Surrenderers have been placed under police custody for their safety. They have been subjected to physical and medical examination, documentation, and tactical interview before their Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP) application.
