Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva on Tuesday, April 11, assured Filipinos that the Philippine Senate would continue to work harder and remain committed to preserving the institution’s tradition as the last bastion of democracy. ‘’We are truly grateful for the trust given by the people to the Senate. The people have spoken!" Villanueva said when asked to comment on the “very good” satisfaction rating received by the upper chamber from the recent Social Weather Station (SWS) survey. The survey covered the last quarter of 2022.
He emphasized that this would not be possible if not for the able leadership of Senate President Juan Miguel ‘’Migz’’ Zubiri who has led the institution with sincerity and truthfulness. ‘’As a consensus builder, SP Migz has brought the institution to greater heights,’’ he pointed out. ‘’Ten months since he was elected SP, the Senate was able to pass key measures, and have ongoing plenary debates on several proposed legislation some of which are priority measures of the Marcos administration,’’ he said. ‘’The Senate was also able to pass the 2023 National Budget right on schedule. To add to that, the parliamentary visits we had, most recently in Japan, has been vital in preserving stronger ties between the Philippines and other countries,’’ he added.
