Prosecutors want K-pop idol Ravi sentenced to 2 years in prison for military service evasion

Prosecutors have asked a Seoul court to sentence K-pop boy band VIXX member Ravi to two years in prison for evading his military service by pretending to have epilepsy.

On April 11, the first trial was held at the Seoul Southern District Court for nine people including Ravi who were charged for violating the Military Service Act.

During the trial, prosecutors asked the court to put Ravi in jail for violating the law.

Ravi, who attended the trial, is accused of conspiring with his agency’s representative and a military service broker to pretend he was an epileptic patient and receive a fake medical diagnosis.

He was indicted without detention last month on charges of attempting to be exempted from military service by submitting the false medical diagnosis to the Military Manpower Administration, which supervises military service, a mandatory duty for all men in South Korea.

Ravi was said to have acted as if he had fainted, received a hospital examination, got a diagnosis and submitted it to the Military Manpower Administration.

The fake epilepsy diagnosis was used so he could be exempted from serving as an active duty soldier. He enlisted last year as a social worker.

He admitted to all the charges and said, "I made a foolish choice that I shouldn't have made. I will not forget this moment from now on and live with a penitent heart for the rest of my life."

The court set the sentencing date later.
