Award-winning Filipino actor Dolly De Leon has wrapped up her upcoming Hollywood project entitled "Grand Death Lotto" with actors John Cena and Awkwafina. "Tapos na ako sa 'Grand Death Lotto.' Pero nagsu-shoot pa rin sila kaya nakauwi na ako. Yun ang ginawa ko last March. Pati yung 'Between Temples,' said De Leon, during an interview before the start of the 1st Summer Metro Manila Film Festival Gabi Ng Parangal held at the New Frontier Theater in Araneta City on April 11. Asked about her working relationship with the cast, De Leon said: "Masarap. Masusurprise kayo pag napanood ninyo. (It's a wonderful feeling. You will be surprised when you watch it. You will all know when you watch the movie.) Her journey as an actress in the US has been a lot of fun for De Leon, 53. "Marami akong natutunan sa journey ko sa US. Feeling ko nag-grow ako as a person and as an artist. So valuable yung experience ko," the single parent said. (I learned a lot during my trip to the US. I feel that I have grown as a person and as an artist. So my experience is valuable.) De Leon is the first Filipino to be nominated for both the Golden Globes and Bafta awards in London for her role in "Triangle of Sadness." After "Grand Death Lotto," De Leon said that she would be busy with other projects here and abroad. Some members of the media teased her about the numerous offers she received following the success of "Triangle of Sadness" in Hollywood. "Hindi naman (marami). Sakto lang. I guess it's enough para maging busy na ako the whole year," De Leon added. When asked who she was starstruck with in Hollywood, De Leon answered: "Sandra Oh." She gave a bit of advice to Filipino actors who wanted to pursue a Hollywood dream. "I didn't wait this to happen. Hindi ko siya hinintay. It's not about waiting for it to happen. I guess it's just all about working and working, doing the best that we can do. Kailangan magtrabaho talaga para lumawak ang reach," De Leon also said.
\* Summer MMFF 2023 jury head
De Leon led the jury in selecting this year's winners for the 1st Summer MMFF. She also said that it was an honor to be part of the inaugural filmfest. "It's such an honor kasi ang ganda ng lineup this year. It feels good to be part of this special lalo na ito yung unang Summer MMFF," the award-winning actress said. But De Leon admitted it was difficult to be a member of the jury. "Medyo mahirap pero meron talaga kaming criteria na sinsusundan provided by the MMFF. Pero siyempre meron din akong sariling taste. "Unfortunately, you cannot please everybody. Hindi naman sinasabing discounted siya. It's just naging mahirap talaga siya para sa aming lahat. Believe it or, it wasn't easy for us to come up with these results. This is all for the best," she said. "At the end of the day, this is really for the industry." On actors who were not nominated despite glowing reviews of their performances, De Leon said: "If you feel bad, that's normal and that's natural. And I know how that feels.
