(PCG Iloilo) The PCG said 1,045,194 passengers traveled across different ports in Western Visayas either for vacation, visit relatives, or go to religious sites. Aklan recorded the highest number of passengers with 170,198 outbound and 160,796 inbound passengers going in and out of Boracay Island as well as the RoRo port in mainland Malay town. Lt. Commander Jansen Benjamin, PCG-6 spokesperson, said sea travel was generally smooth. “Except we had an incident in Boracay,” Benjamin told Manila Bulletin in a phone interview on Monday, April 10, referring to the death of Ernesto Coching, a 60-year-old Ati leader who fell overboard after his fishing boat was hit by a speedboat of a posh resort going to Boracay on April 5. His body was found on April 7. In the city and province of Iloilo, there were 153,941 outbound and 118,874 inbound passengers. The island-province of Guimaras had 85,610 outbound and 77,291 inbound passengers. In Negros Occidental, there were 46,131 outbound passengers and 42,681 inbound passengers. In Antique, there were 2,687 outbound and 2,882 inbound passengers.
