Holy Week in Western Visayas peaceful – police

ILOILO CITY – The commemoration of Holy Week in Western Visayas was generally peaceful, the Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 said.

The number of crimes decreased during the Holy Week compared to the same period last year. PRO-6 said 313 criminal incidents were recorded this year, 30 fewer than in 2022 with 343. Police Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco, PRO-6 director, attributed this to the deployment of 2,332 policemen and force multipliers in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod. “Truly, with the unity of all men and women in the police and force multipliers, as well as with the vigilant community, there was peace and order,” said Francisco. Police Major Mary Grace Borio, PRO-6 spokesperson, said the number of eight major crimes – murder, homicide, rape, physical injury, robbery, theft, motor vehicle theft and motorcycle theft – during the Holy Week also dropped by 55 percent from 54 in 2022 to 23 this year.
