CEBU CITY – The observance of Holy Week in the province of Cebu was generally peaceful, the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) said on Monday, April 10.
Col. Rommel Ochave, CPPO chief, said measures taken like increasing police visibility in churches contributed to the peaceful observance of the Holy Week.
Ochave said the “Bisikleta Iglesia” or policemen patrolling churches, business establishments, tourists posts, and other places of convergence using bicycles also helped maintain peace and order during the holidays.
“The hardworking police officers, the vigilance of the community, and the support of the local government units, other government forces, and force multipliers helped ensure peace in the province,” said Ochave.
Ochave said the anti-criminality campaign was intensified during the Holy Week.
A series of police operations confiscated 1.2 kilos of suspected shabu worth P8.5 million and the arrest of 57 suspected drug pushers.
Ochave said 102 persons were also arrested for illegal gambling.
Thirty-two wanted persons and 29 other wanted persons were arrested while in the campaign against loose firearms, 55 unlicensed guns were confiscated while three were surrendered for safekeeping.
