Agust D, also known as BTS’ Suga, dropped his pre-release track “People Pt. 2 (feat. IU)" on April 7.  This will be part of Agust D’s upcoming solo album “D-Day,” which will come out on April 21.  IU (left) and BTS' Suga, aka Agust D (Screenshots from IU's video on YouTube)
“People Pt. 2 (feat. IU)” expresses the common emotions found within relationships — love, separation, fear, sadness — that seem futile, but are always prevalent.  This is Suga and IU’s second collaboration. IU featured Suga in her song “Eight” that was released in May 2020.  On April 10, IU talked to Suga in her latest episode for the YouTube video “IU’s Palette.”  Suga said “People Pt. 2 (feat. IU)” originally “was supposed to be a B-side song but featuring IU, I announced it as a pre-release track.  “D-Day” is Agust D’s third album after “Agust D” and “D-2,” which were both mixtapes.  “So this is officially my first album. This is my first official album with a CD,” said Suga. .  Suga turned 30 last March 9 and she was asked by IU if his birthday felt different when he turned 30.  “Actually, when I turned 20, I thought when I turned 20 the whole world would change drastically but it didn't. There was nothing special about 30... But this year I'm doing a tour so I guess it will be a memorable 30,” he said.  Besides releasing an album, Suga will also be embarking on a “D-Day” concert tour starting in New York on April 26.  “I'm actually really worried doing a solo tour. I'm the first member to do this. Imagining myself performing 20 or more songs on my own I'm worried, ‘Can my throat maintain it?’ The concert production... is ineffable. It's something you've never seen before! Even I haven't seen anything like it!” said Suga.  During their first collaboration for “Eight,” they never saw each other in person due to Covid-19.  “No! We never did, It was Covid-19,” he said.  IU said, “We also recorded separately for this song too.”  Disney+ is also releasing a documentary focused on Agust D titled ‘SUGA: Road to D-Day” on April 21.  About the documentary, Suga said, “The first 30 minutes... you can watch while skipping Why? I really... I seriously... look so bad. It's a bit too serious…’An idol can look like that?’ I was so surprised at myself. Starting from how I make music you'll see how I gradually go crazy.  My headphones will...!” Suga said he wrote “People Pt. 2” three years ago.  “This is a song I wrote even before ‘Eight.’ I had a lot of thoughts on my mind on relationships so Jung Kook sang the guide for this song,” he said.  Suga said the name Agust D came about because “at first, I was so fed up back then ‘why would people look down on me? Because I'm an idol?’ When normally as an idol, there's a lot of things I can't say out loud. I needed a means to let my feelings out. I created another self called Agust D.” He added that “once Agust D's trilogy comes to an end it might be hard to see him again. That's what I'm thinking for now. For now, because... As I get older - The less and less I get angry. They referred to us as ‘BTS is back from hell.’ We were beaten up by so many haters but I've forgiven all those people now.”  “Anger was what mainly created my music. They say I've become mellow,” said Suga.  “In fact, in my new album, except for the first 3-4 tracks, all the tracks are easy listening. Actually, I write easy songs better. The tracks in the beginning are there to clarify the theme of this album. The mood and styles of the songs behind are closer to the kind of music I've been writing since I was young,” he said.  IU asked him to explain the album title “D-Day.”  “The first intro is a song called ‘D-Day.’ The day has come. We have overflowing information in this Information Age. So many conflicts, trying to break free. ‘Let's be reborn on this day!’ ‘The me of the past is dead and no longer exists,’ ‘Only the present me exists,’ that's what the song sings. ‘Focus on me, living in the present,’ ‘That day is today, D-DAY,’” said Suga.  Suga also recalled the past decade since debuting in BTS in 2013.  “Looking back on when I first debuted... This mostly got edited whenever I said this. I think... it's a really harsh environment for new singers to survive. You went through your tough times. I went through mine too,” he said.  He added, “And to all the new singers who might be watching, I can see the hardships of newly-debuted singers so well. You can't sleep. You can't sleep, you can't eat.. Huddled up to sleep in a space set up with partition walls like a green room. So when I first debuted I told myself, ‘I must succeed.’ I really wished that I could make a better environment. Fortunately, over time, 10 years is still a short experience, but I heard things are changing quite a lot, at broadcasting studios too. Honestly back then... I was only full of anger.” “I am going to succeed and take revenge! I'm going to beat that group, this group. I was childish, immature. These days I'm at peace. Haters... Haters.. will always be there If I mention this, then someone always says something about this. It's another death flag.. I'm at peace these days. I'm very mentally stable. I think I'm becoming grown up. I don't know if I'm fully grown up yet but If I'm going to be, I want to be a good one. I'm doing my best,” said Suga.
