4 rescued from capsized boat in Quezon


ALABAT, Quezon – Four persons were rescued from a boat that capsized in Lamon Bay in Atimonan, Quezon on Easter Sunday.

The Alabat police identified them as Godfrey Almojar, 45, boat captain; and boat crew Rolly Onoya, 20, single, and Mark Aron Mafe, 18, single, residents of Barangay 3 Poblacion, Alabat, Quezon, and  Engelbert Magon, 44, of Barangay Buenavista in Alabat.

Lawmen received information through the Facebook account of a certain Ays Camino seeking help for a distressed boat in Atimonan at about 8 p.m.

Police coordinated with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office which conducted a search and rescue operation.

Responders sighted the victims floating at sea and rescued them.

Victims were all safe and taken to Alabat Island District Hospital for checkup.

Almojar told police they were on their way to the Alabat Port from the Atimonan Port when they were hit by big waves that caused the boat to capsize.
