CEBU CITY – Two siblings died after they fell into a septic tank in Barangay San Roque, Talisay City, southern Cebu on Easter Sunday.
Police identified the fatalities as Mark Emman Llamedo, 6, and Nathaniel Llamedo, 7.
Police Corporal Clifford Lerio, investigator-on-case, said that the incident happened at past 11 a.m. and was reported to the Talisay City Police Station by the victims' auntie at around 4 p.m.
Lerio said the two siblings reached an area where there was an unfinished septic tank while they were playing with their two cousins.
Police said the septic tank was cordoned off by flat bars.
The two siblings grabbed the flat bars and suddenly fell into the septic tank.
Their cousins aged nine and 11 tried to save them and were able to grab their hands but lost grip because of the weight of the thick mud that blanketed them.
With the help of some residents, the two siblings were eventually fished out from the muddy septic tank.
The victims were taken to the Cebu South Medical Center where they were declared dead on arrival by attending doctors, police said.
