Imee leads distribution of P3,000 aid to 1,000 women in Samar


CALBAYOG CITY – Sen. Imee Marcos led the distribution of aid totaling P3 million to 1,000 women composed of solo parents, persons with disabilities, and senior citizens in Samar under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program here on Friday, March 31.

Beneficiaries from this city and the town of Gandara received P3,000 each.

Marcos extended P5 million for a project that will help alleviate the effects of the pandemic on farmers and fisherfolk in Gandara and Calbayog.

She assured that the government will prioritize the agriculture sector in order to meet the demands in food production and become self-sufficient.

Mayor Raymund Uy here thanked Marcos for assisting farmers and fisherfolk.

He said that they will hold a Farmers and Fisherfolk Congress to identify and decide the project that will best serve the agriculture sector in this city.

Samar Rep. Stephen James Tan appealed to the senator for help in the Maharlika Highway rehabilitation. Tan said that with the help of the senator, they will be able to lobby for the inclusion of the rehabilitation project in the annual budget.

Marcos vowed to assist in the rehabilitation. However, she said they have to identify the project specifications to figure out the best method to proceed with the project. "I'm committed to assist because we are all fully aware of the problem," Marcos assured.

The distribution of aid was in line with the culminating activity for National Women’s Month.
