Filipinos warned on false reports on Taal Volcano circulating online

LAGUNA – The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) is advising the public to refrain from sharing unverified and inconsistent information as this may cause panic and confusion.

On Saturday, April 1, the council issued an advisory to shed light on misinformation being circulated on social media regarding the status of Taal Volcano in Taal town, Batangas.

“Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 1 Status,” said the RDRRMC in its advisory.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology (Phivolcs) also said on Saturday that the video circulating on social media showing Taal Volcano spewing plumes is false.

The RDRRMC-Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon area) chaired by the Office of the Civil Defense 4-A Regional Director Maria Theresa Escalano warned it would not tolerate the irresponsible act of the people behind the TaALERT social media account.
