ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Zamboanga City government led a parade and program in celebration of International Women’s Day on Wednesday, March 8.

Dubbed as “Marcha de las Mujeres: A Purple Walk for a Cause,” hundreds of women wearing purple shirts marched towards Paseo del Mar where they held a short program.
In a speech, Mayor John Dalipe lauded the role of women as mothers as he commended them for the upbringing of their children.
We will not exist in this world if not for our mothers, said Dalipe in the vernacular.
He described women as “powerful beings” who, as prime caretakers of their families, have great influence as mothers, sisters, grandmothers, and friends in the community.
Participants include female and male representatives from government, non-government agencies, the academe, barangays, and the security sector.
The parade and program in honor of International Women’s Day was organized by the city government of Zamboanga and the GAD (Gender and Development) Focal System in collaboration with the Local Council of Women.
