Caritas PH to send assistance to Oriental Mindoro oil spill affected residents
The Church’s humanitarian and social advocacy arm will be providing assistance to residents affected by the oil spill in Oriental Mindoro.
The Caritas Philippines is expected to provide “food assistance” to affected families, said Calapan Diocesan Social Action Center (DSAC) Director Fr. Edwin Gariguez in a social media post.
“NASSA Caritas Philippines has committed to support 250 affected families with food packs that will be made available to the unreached and most needy affected coastal communities,” he said.
“The LGUs (local government units) including the provincial government are providing the needed assistance to the affected communities. And we are complementing their interventions especially to reach out to the ‘unreached’ and still unattended families,” he added.
Meanwhile, food items and emergency assistance will also be provided by Lipa Archdiocesan Social Action Center (LASAC) and Center for Energy Ecology and Development (CEED), said Gariguez.
Gariguez that they are currently in the process of finalizing the list of beneficiaries.
To recall, the oil tanker MT Princess Empress, which was carrying 800,000 liters of industrial oil, sank off Naujan, Oriental Mindoro last week.
