Cancer can be treated and prevented with the advancement in equipment and medicines.
The most common types of cancer are that of breast, lung and colorectum, said Dr. Marigold Ferrolino, head of Rizal Medical Center oncology department.
“Early detection leads to early prevention,” Ferrolino said in a statement.
Ferrolino said that the Department of Health (DOH) is providing assistance for the treatment of cancer patients.
“Modern medicines and equipment for free treatment of cancer are available locally through the Department of Health,” she said.
Meanwhile, a doctor from the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) called on the government for additional funding for cancer treatment programs in the country.
“We can beat cancer. We can save lives. We can do more if the budget is increased by Congress,” said Dr. Marvin Mendoza, head of NKTI-Medical Oncology section.
