Recto underscores 2-way benefit of proposed bodycams for airport OTS staff
House Deputy Speaker and Batangas 6th district Rep. Ralph Recto has highlighted the two-way benefit of the proposed purchase of body-mounted cameras for airport Office of Transportation Security (OTS) personnel.

This, as Recto complimented House Speaker Martin Romualdez on Wednesday, March 8 for successfully dealing with the OTS issue at the heels of the theft on a Thai tourist at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) by some of the security personnel.
Recto was the one who proposed tapping bodycams for OTS staff.
Meanwhile, Romualdez called transportation and aviation officials for a meeting in the House of Representatives on the embarrassing theft issue. The meeting took place Monday, March 6.
"I praise Speaker Martin for successfully pressing this issue with the DOTr (Department of Transportation) and OTS leadership. Nagagalak akong meron tayong Speaker (I'm happy that we have a Speaker) who troubleshoot problems hands on" Recto said.
"Hindi lang po matutuwa, Mister Speaker, ang mga biyahero, pero ang mga bantay na rin (Mister Speaker, not only will passengers be elated, but also the security personnel) because the bodycam protects the checked from abuse, and the checker from arrogance," he pointed out.
"The duty of the House of Representatives, through its appropriate committee, is to see to it that what DOTr promised, it will deliver soon," the Batangueño said.
As for the purchase of the bodycams, Recto advised the DOTr to treat it "as an emergency purchase, not an item for eternal procurement".
The deputy speaker was alluding to the Philippine National Police (PNP) experience in purchasing bodycams, which took four years.
"Bodycams needed yesterday should not be delivered many years from now," he added.
