Pasay City starts month-long festivities for 'Juanas' with motorcade, free rides

Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano led the kick-off for the city's celebration of National Women's Month on Wednesday, March 8, with a fun ride dubbed as "Juana Fun Ride" which was participated in by more than 100 riders, free rides for women, and a host of other activities that will celebrate women.   Rubiano led the send-off ceremony for over 100 Nmax and Vespa riders who participated in the motorcade in celebration of the International Women's Day on Wednesday, March 8.   The “Juana Funride” motorcade started at the Pasay City Hall at 8:00 a.m. and moved to the World Trade Center on Buendia Avenue at 10:30 a.m. for the program proper.   From Barangay 183 in Villamor, the motorcade turned left to 4th St., right to Manlunas, left to Andrews Ave., straight to Roxas Boulevard, left to EDSA, right to Macapagal Ave., and right to Buendia before heading to World Trade Center.   The mayo also prepared a “song and greet” after the motorcade, serenading the female employees dubbed “Harana Kay Juana” from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the lobby of Pasay City Hall.   “Itong buwan ng kababaihan, ipagdiwang natin ang ating pagiging makabagong Juana! Ipakita natin at ipagmalaki natin ang ating lakas at galing sa pamamagitan ng ating mga tungkulin bilang ina, asawa, kaibigan, at lider,”(In celebration of women’s month let’s celebrate as modern Juana! Let us show them we are strong as a mother, wife, friend, and leader),” said Rubiano.   The mayor also told Pasayenos to participate and take advantage of the free services of the city government such as the Pink Lane or priority lane for women and the Zumba session at the City Hall parking space on March 11.   Rubiano said the city government is also offering free rides to female commuters from March 1 until the end of the month.   She added the Civil Registry also gave free certified true copies (CTC) of birth and marriage certificates on Wednesday, March 8.   The mayor said the city government also prepared various activities to pamper all the Juana’s like  free ultrasound, Xray, and ECG; job fairs; free seminar on stress and mental health; Kalipi Seminars on Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC); Women Health Awareness and Prevention; and a cook-off on March 30 to 31 dubbed as “Emi’s Pancit with a Twist.”
