Mall management investigates cause of escalator accident in Sta. Rosa, Laguna

LAGUNA – The management of SM City Santa Rosa is now investigating the cause of an escalator accident that injured several shoppers on Sunday, March 5.

During the incident, the escalator moving upwards suddenly slid back, dropping people down to the bottom of the staircase.

“Narinig ko po na biglang naghiyawan ang mga tao at 'yun po pala, may naaksidente na po sa escalator at nakita po namin ng asawa ko na may mga sugatan mga matanda at bata (I heard people screaming, as it turned out, there was an escalator accident, and my wife and I saw that there were injured adults and children),” Cañedo told the Manila Bulletin on Wednesday, March 8.

According to Cañedo, the mall’s security guards responded immediately to assist the injured shoppers.

In a statement released on March 6, the mall management says they have taken involved customers to the hospital and had them properly examined.
