Arroyo reveals how she wants to be remembered

House Senior Deputy Speaker and Pampanga 2nd district Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo recalled how she was influenced by the people around her to join politics and how she became the "Superstar Nora Aunor" of politics.
"Two years old, doon ako namulat bilang congressman’s daughter at nasanay akong maraming politiko na pumupunta sa bahay," said Arroyo, former Philippine president, in an interview for Aster Amoyo's "TicTalk" on YouTube recently.
Arroyo, 75, said she was exposed to politics when she was a child. She remembered their garage being used by their father former President Diosdado Macapagal as venue for political meetings.
She also recalled it was topnotch publicist Salvador "Bubby" Dacer from Albay who first predicted that she would become president someday.
"One day, you’re going to become the President of the Philippines," Arroyo quoted Dacer.
Also, it was Dacer who first called Arroyo “Nora Aunor” as he realized that the politician has a resemblance to the award-winning actress.
"Gagawin kitang superstar ng Senado. Iyan ang gagawin kong image sa'yo," Arroyo quoted Dacer as saying.
Arroyo said: "Grabe ang coverage noon, so mula noon naging Nora Aunor ako ng pulitika."
At GMA’s 2004 inaugural as president, Aunor sang the national anthem.
When Aunor celebrated her birthday at the Folks Arts Theatre on May 26, 2004, Arroyo joined the celebration where she also sang with Ate Guy.
“It was Nora Aunor who said she wanted to help and this was her way of expressing support for my administration,” said Arroyo, in one of her interviews in 2002 when Aunor appeared in an advertisement endorsing the government’s anti-poverty campaign during her term.
Arroyo is the 14th president of the Philippines from Jan. 20, 2001 to June 30, 2010. She is also an economist and a former professor.
(Richielyn Canlas and Hannah Nicole/OJT)
