And it's at Pangasinan District 4

Rep. Christopher "Toff" de Venecia is inviting everyone to come and visit the Fourth District of Pangasinan for the GALILA Arts Festival.

The arts festival is a celebration of the flourishing creative community of Pangasinan District 4. At the same time the festival serves as a venue for local creatives to learn, skillshare, and collaborate with creatives from other regions in the Philippines.

GALILA in English means "come and visit, and de Venecia adds that "The true essence of GALILA is not fully understood by the mere translation alone. You have to experience Pangasinan beauty and hospitality in order to know and encounter the weight and message that GALILA carries."

Festival Director Jodinand Aguillon says, "There's such diversity within our arts communities. We hope to inspire more exchanges, not only amongst local artists and audiences, but also from other creatives in the Philippines wanting to explore PD4. It's magical when people from different practices and POVs collaborate or collide."

The GALILA Arts Festival is a follow through to the success of the Anakbanwa Creative Residency Program launched in 2021 to provide a venue for creatives to immerse themselves in the different communities, experience cultural heritage, and learn from diverse practices in Pangasinan District 4.

The Anakbanwa Creative Residency Program was featured in the recently-concluded prestigious Art Fair Philippines.

The GALILA Arts Festival is a 10-day, multi-arts festival mounted at the historic Tondaligan Blue Beach of Dagupan City and other participating venues "where culture and commerce intersect to highlight the creative economy."

GALILA Arts Festival with exciting activities such as live painting competitions, public art activations, performances, film screenings, workshops and creative exchanges will run from March 10 -19, 2023.

One of the GALILA events is the Bizarts Program (March 10 to 19), which brings together commerce and creativity through partnering PD4 MSMEs with local artists for creation of artistic spaces.

Another is Sounds/Scapes (March 11), a hybrid (online and site-specific) musical fiesta showcasing OPM and the cultural landscapes of Pangasinan. An aural journey through the Fourth District by way of acoustic jams along the shores of Beur, to Fliptop battles through the Magsaysay Fish Market.

Other activities include Galilolz on March 10 showcasing legendary zarzuela artist Insiyong Tamayo and Third World Improv—the country's premiere improv theater troupe, Sarag Mi Exhibition on March 11 to 19 for the arts exhibition featuring the works of 30 female artists based in Pangasinan launching within the historic MacArthur House in Dagupan in honor of Pangasinan cultural stalwart Normal Liongoren, Spin Cycle Sunday on March 12 which is a cycling community scavenger hunt celebrating cultural landmarks and historical architecture & the cycling communities of Pangasinan, Potluck Pecha Kucha on March 15 as part of the Department of Tourism cultural exchange program bringing together creatives from Bacolod and Dagupan. In place of food, this gathering invites two creative communities to exchange stories, creative process and hopes for the future of creativity here in the Philippines, Sunset Sinehan on March 17 for the outdoor film screening by the scenic Tondaligan seashore. Digital shorts created by Pangasinan creatives will be shown along with a selected feature film directed by Prime Cruz, and San Fabulous on March 18 featuring contemporary Pangasinense drag artists Maureen Biology, The Deja and Emerald as they showcase Kabaleyan Drag Realness, Wall-Walan on March 19 featuring the GALILA finale with an interdisciplinary mural-fest bringing in the creative future of PD4 to celebrate the District through street art, highlighting what it means to be a PD4 creative; among others.
