The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have completed three evacuation centers in Dingalan Aurora, which it said, will provide temporary shelter to the distressed residents of the typhoon prone areas of the municipality.
In a statement on Tuesday, March 7, DPWH Region 3 Director Roseller Tolentino said that Barangays Butas na Bato, Matawe and Umiray are the recipients of the evacuation centers, which will certainly provide a safer refuge to the distressed residents during emergency situations and disastrous incidents.
Undertaken by the DPWH Aurora District Engineering Office (DEO) at a combined cost of P29.5 million, each evacuation center has two storeys of available space that can be used as temporary shelters in times of calamities.
Tolentino underlined the importance of providing the multi-purpose facilities as Barangays Butas na Bato, Matawe, and Umiray are among the seven flood-prone areas in the town of Dingalan, which is frequently visited by strong typhoons.
To recall the Sept. 2022 onslaught of Super Typhoon Karding affected Dingalan’s 11 barangays that left 200 families homeless and over 6,000 houses damaged.
Tolentino explained that the geographical location of Aurora facing the Pacific Ocean with no natural barriers against typhoons is the main reason why the construction of evacuation centers were among the priority projects of DPWH in the province.
