Angel Canino credits teammates for La Salle's 3-0 start

Angel Canino refused to take all the credit that went into De La Salle’s strong 3-0 start for the solo lead in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament.
The 19-year-old rookie, who introduced herself in a promising debut in the league, has taken the player of the game honors for the third straight time.
With reigning champion National University seeing its 20-game win streak come to an end at the hands of the University of Santo Tomas last March 4, all eyes are now on La Salle to dictate how the season will unfold atop the standings following its sweep of Ateneo the following day.
Despite the heavy lifting she has done for the Lady Spikers with her career-best 23 points on 21 attacks, one block and an ace in their swift victory, Canino insisted that a total team effort went into their strong start.
“I think we all deserve the POG (player of the game), kasi lahat po kami nag-contribute inside the court. Wala po akong masabi basta proud ako sa team kasi ginawa namin ‘yong best namin. Push talaga kaming hanggang dulo and prinove namin lahat na kaya namin,” said Canino who also tallied nine excellent digs on the defensive end to go along with her offensive production.
The 5-foot-11 spiker scored eight of her 23 points in the first set alone, already setting the tone for the rest of the match.
“Masaya . I think it’s different pag may rivalry kayo. Pero at the same time, may pressure rin. Pero hindi naman ,” added Canino on her first taste of the Ateneo-La Salle rivalry as the Lady Spikers now hold an 11-game head-to-head record over the Blue Eagles.
The Lady Spikers are seeking to make it a four-game win streak this Season 85 when it takes on the University of the East Lady Warriors in the first offering of the quadruple-header on Wednesday, March 8, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
