House Speaker Martin Romualdez has told Negros Oriental folk to remain calm at the heels of the assassination of their governor, Roel Degamo.

This, as he assured people of the province that President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is "on top of the situation".
"We want to assure the people of Negros Oriental to remain calm because no less than the President has been on top of the situation since it occured 24 hours ago," Romualdez, Leyte’s 1st district representative, said in a press briefing in Negros Oriental Sunday, March 5 with Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos.
"He has ordered us to root out the perpetrators of this crime and to make sure that justice is restored, peace and order is restored to Negros Oriental," the House leader added.
"Rest assured, people of Negros Oriental, that peace and order has been restored, there's nothing to fear. The law enforcers, the whole of government, the Chief of Staff is here, to assure you that there will be no further crimes of this nature in Negros Oriental," he further said.
Romualdez flew into the province on Sunday morning to visit the wake of Degamo.
Degamo and five others were gunned down and killed by unidentified armed men on Saturday morning, March 4 in Pamplona, Negros Oriental.
"Nagpapasalamat naman rin ako na (I'm thankful that) most of the suspects have already been apprehended. So huwag naman natin tigilan itong manhunt dahil (So let's not stop this manhunt because) there's still on the loose at we have also to ferret out who is the mastermind of this heinous crime," Romualdez added.
He further said that the House would do its part to provide for the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in terms of their budgets "and for whatever requirements", as he cited the "great demand for more peace and order".
