Carlos Yulo put up a gallant stand against his fierce counterparts and ended up bagging the bronze medal in vault at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series at the Aspire Dome in Doha, Qatar Saturday, March 4.
The diminutive dynamo displayed his gorgeous form and scored a 14.883 average on two vaults, finishing behind eventual gold medalist and reigning world champion Artur Davtyan of Armenia (15.083) and silver winner Igor Radivilov of Ukraine (14.899).
Yulo performed a handspring front double pike on his first vault to score 14.966, and a Kasamatsu double twist on his second for 14.800.
His medal finish was a big improvement from his performance in the first leg of the series in Cottbus, Germany last week, where he failed to advance to the medal round by finishing 12th in the qualifications.
Davtyan, for his part, was solid with his Dragulescu with a step back for 14.966, and a splendid handspring Randi two and a half twist for an impressive 15.200 to capture the gold medal.
Yulo seeks for another medal finish – hopefully, the gold medal – as he competes in the parallel bars as of this writing.
