The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Central Luzon on Friday, March 31, said a free Wi-Fi site has been activated in Bulacan.
This is in line with the national government’s goal of bridging the digital divide. The latest free Wi-Fi site was installed at Sto. Niño Elementary School in Paombong, Bulacan.
According to DICT, this initiative may be utilized by students, adding that it may even help them achieve academic excellence.
“Public schools and state universities and colleges (SUCs) are places that are of high priority for the rollout of free Wi-Fi sites,” said DICT on Friday.
“[We] will continue to provide free internet connectivity for the benefit of every Filipino,” it added.
DICT Undersecretary and Spokesperson Anna Mae Lamentillo in December 2022 said the agency is working on the establishment of free Wi-Fi sites in the country, especially in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.
Lamentillo also disclosed that they are aiming to mount at least 15,834 free Wi-Fi sites across the archipelago in 2023, expecting that around 100,000 free Wi-Fi hotspots will be operational in the country by 2025.
This free Wi-Fi initiative, according to DICT, enables easier access to government services and presents fresh opportunities for Filipinos.
