The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Monday reported spikes both in the new confirmed COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) cases and new recoveries among Filipinos abroad.

According to the DFA, the spikes were attributed to reports from Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Middle East, and Africa.
Only one new fatality was recorded in the Middle East.
To date, the total number of COVID-19 cases involving overseas Filipinos is now 10,467. Of the total, 6,676 have recovered, 2,999 are undergoing treatment and 792 died due to coronavirus infections.
The Middle East remains the region with the biggest number of infections among Filipinos with 7,097 followed by Asia and the Pacific, 1,383; Europe, 1,179, and the Americas with 808.
“The DFA, together with its Foreign Service Posts, continues to partner with host governments to ensure the safety and well-being of Filipino nationals abroad amid the pandemic,” the department said in a statement.
