PH records 2,261 new COVID cases

The country recorded 2,261 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, bringing the total to 348,698.

The Department of Health said 48,040 of these are active cases or those who are still undergoing treatment. 

Metro Manila still has the highest number of new cases at 566, followed by Cavite with 174, Pangasinan with 145, Northern Samar with 104, and Quezon with 98.

The DoH also said that 385 more patients have recovered from the disease, bringing the total number of recoveries to 294,161.

Fifty new COVID-19 fatalities were recorded, pushing the number of deaths to 6,497. The DoH noted that 34 of the newly reported deaths occurred in October, while the rest happened from June to September. 

President Duterte has said that the government is trying to look for more funds to procure COVID-19 vaccines for all Filipinos once it becomes available. 

He added that they will prioritize the vaccination of those in the poor sector, police, and military personnel. 

Last September,  Food and Drug Administration Director General Rolando Enrique Domingo said the possibility of approving a COVID-19 vaccine for commercial use in the country may happen in April 2021, which is considered as the “best case scenario.”
