PH marks 8th month of COVID-19 pandemic: total cases breach 314,000

There are 2,415 new people in the country who tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19), taking the total tally nationwide to over 314,000, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Thursday.

The total number of infected individuals rose to 314,079, eight months after the Philippines’ first case was confirmed. The active cases or currently ill patients currently stood at 54,294.

Based on the latest case bulletin, 30 duplicate cases were removed from total case count as part of the DOH’s constant cleaning and validation process.

The bulletin also showed that 930 of the new cases were from Metro Manila, while Cavite posted 238 infections, followed by Rizal with 128, Laguna with 123, and Negros Occidental with 103.

The country's tally on recoveries jumped to 254,223, as the DOH confirmed that 771 more patients have got well. However, 59 more died, raising the death toll to 5,562.

Of the 59 fatalities, 37 died in September, while the other 22 patients died in August, July, June, and April.

Meanwhile, to further instill in the importance of minimum health standards, the DOH announced its partnership with the Philippine Seven Corporation (PSC), the exclusive licensor of 7-Eleven Philippines, to promote the department’s BIDA Solusyon Campaign

The BIDA Solusyon campaign is a call to all sectors to comply with standard health protocols, especially when out in public---such as the donning of face masks and face shields; regular and proper handwashing, and one-meter physical distancing---as preventive measures against the spread of the virus.

“With this new partnership with 7-Eleven, the DOH aims to reach Filipinos on the very basic grassroots level. One part of the partnership will have the PSC promoting the BIDA message in very strategic places such as their 24/7 convenience stores,” the DOH said.
