Number of COVID-19 cases in Eastern Visayas surpasses 3,000-mark
TACLOBAN City - After confirming 51 fresh cases on Tuesday, the number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Eastern Visayas has breached the 3,000-mark.
Samar province had the most number of new cases reported with 38, coming from Calbayog City (1), Catbalogan City (26), Paranas (1), and Villareal (10).
Leyte logged a total of 12 cases from Dagami (2), Kananga (1), Palo (1), Tolosa (1), Albuera (1), Villaba (1), Tanauan (1) Matag-ob (1), Pastrana (1), and Tacloban City (2).

Based on records of the Department of Health (DOH-8), it took more than four months for the region to reach its first, 1,000 COVID-19 cases, but it only took 17 days for Eastern Visayas to surpass the 2,000 mark, and only 10 days to pass 3,000 cases.
Eastern Visayas has a total of 1,241 or 41.32 percent active cases, 1,738 or 57.87 percent recoveries with 16 deaths.
Meanwhile, despite a joint resolution of the inter-agency task force on emerging infectious diseases (IATF-EID) and the Regional Taskforce on COVID-19 to the national IATF to revert the status to general community quarantine (GCQ) starting August 28 for 14 days, and seeking a 15-day moratorium on the entry of locally-stranded individuals (LSIs), due to the sudden surge of cases, only Tacloban City has been placed under GCQ by the national IATF.
Tacloban City has a total of 424 cases. Of these cases, 317 were active and 103 have recovered. It also has four reported deaths.
