Manila implements 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew, other GCQ guidelines

The Manila city government will comply with the National Capital Region-wide 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew set by the national government, it said Thursday midnight (Aug. 20).

The announcement came a day after it said it will enforce a 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew following the implementation of the general community quarantine (GCQ) in the metropolis on Wednesday (Aug. 19).

The city government also said:

  • It will use the old quarantine passes to implement an odd-even scheme for going out in public.
  • Those with quarantine passes ending in odd numbers will be allowed to leave their houses from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays.
  • Those whose quarantine passes ending in even numbers can go out in public from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
  • As before, only one quarantine pass per family will be issued. Quarantine pass holders must only leave their houses to buy food, medicine, and other necessities.
  • There will be no liquor ban during the GCQ since the city government did not implement it during the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) from Aug. 4 to 18.
  • Wearing face masks is still mandatory. 
  • Social gatherings are still prohibited.

The Department of Public Services (DPS) has also issued guidelines on the proper disposal of household medical waste, such as used personal protective equipment (PPEs), to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

Masks, gloves, and other used PPEs must be placed in a separate trash bag, preferably in a yellow bag labeled “healthcare waste.”

The DPS also encouraged the public to disinfect their PPEs before throwing them away. They can soak their used face masks and gloves in a solution of 1.5 liters of water and a tablespoon of bleach for 30 minutes before disposing of them.
