BUTUAN CITY – A magnitude-4.2 earthquake rocked Davao de Oro on Thursday morning, March 30, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The earthquake struck at 6:37 a.m. and its epicenter was 12 kilometers southeast of the municipality of New Bataan, Davao de Oro.
The tremor had a shallow depth only of one kilometer, Phivolcs said.
It was felt at Intensity IV in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro.
The quake was tectonic in origin and no damage or aftershocks are expected.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Southern Mindanao and the Davao de Oro Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reported no damage or injury from the quake.
Two hours earlier at 4:10 a.m., a magnitude-4.8 tectonic earthquake was recorded 398 kilometers southeast of Balut Island in the municipality of Sarangani, Davao Occidental, with a depth of 96 kilometers.
