The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Monday reported huge spikes both in the number of confirmed new COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) cases and new recoveries among Filipinos abroad, specifically in the Middle East and in Asia and the Pacific.
It shows in the latest tally that the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases involving overseas Filipinos has increased by 213 while some 220 were added to new recoveries.
The new spikes, according to the DFA, were caused by delays in reporting from at least one country in the Middle East due to privacy issues.
In addition, one new Filipino fatality due to COVID-19 was recorded in the Middle East.
As of October 12, 2020, the total number of COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad is now 11,082. Of the total, 3,144 are undergoing treatment, 7,136 have recovered and 802 died of coronavirus infections.
The foreign department assured that it will continue to partner with host governments to ensure the safety and well-being of Filipino nationals abroad amidst the pandemic.
