House records 58 COVID cases

COVID-19 cases in the House of Representatives reached 58 on Saturday, August 29, after the chamber reported three more employees testing positive for the viral disease.

Of the 58 lawmakers and employees who were infected, only 13 , including Northern Samar Rep. Paul Daza, are still undergoing treatment or are under quarantine.

“We received reports of three confirmed cases,” Secretary General Jose Luis Montales revealed.

Montales said the first to test COVID 19 positive among the three is an employee assigned at the Transportation Service. The victim reported for work on August 24 and 25.

”The second is a Congressional staff. She went to work on August 12 and 13. The following day, she took care of her sick mother, who turned out to be positive for COVID-19,” he disclosed.

According to him the third employe is assigned at the Reference and Research Bureau who last reported for work on July 29.

“He was exposed to his sister who, in turn, was a close contact of a confirmed case in her office,” disclosed Montales.

Daza became the sixth House member to reveal his COVID 19 condition.

“Sadly, I share the news that I was diagnosed as COVID-19 positive yesterday, August 25. I am not hospitalized and look forward to being discharged upon clearance by my doctors,” said Daza in a statement.

Senior Citizens Partylist Rep. Francisco Datol Jr. is the lone fatality among congressmen who were infected.

Others who tested positive for COVID 19 were Deputy Speakers Johnny Pimentel and Mujiv Hataman: Reps. Samier Tan of Sulu and Henry Villarica of Bulacan.
