The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country topped 194,000 as 4,600 new cases were reported, the Department of Health said Monday.

The DoH said 194,252 COVID-19 have been recorded, of which 4,686 are newly confirmed cases. Thirteen new fatalities were recorded, bringing the death toll to 3,010.

Seven-hundred twenty-nine patients have recovered to bring the total recoveries nationwide to 132,042.

According to the Health department, the confirmed cases were reported based on the total tests done by 95 out of 109 current operational laboratories in the country.

Of the 4,686 newly reported cases, 4,045 or 86 percent occurred within the recent 14 days (Aug. 11 to 24). The regions with the most cases in that fortnight were the National Capital Region (NCR) with 2,242 or 55 percent, Region 4-A with 723 or 18 percent, and Region 3 with 285 or seven percent.

Of the 13 deaths, six took place in August, six in July, and one in June. These deaths were reported from NCR, Region 4-A , Region 7, Region 5, and Region 11.

“There were 35 duplicates that were removed from the total case count. Of these, 17 were recovered and one death has been removed. Moreover, there were 37 cases that were previously reported as recovered but after final validation, they were confirmed as deaths (5) and active cases (32),” the department said.

The State’s case fatality rate is at 1.55 percent of the total cases while reproduction number is at 0.864 and both are tagged by the Health department as “faring better” while the positivity rate, or the percentage of people who tested positive of the disease out of the total number of persons tested, is at 10.50 percent.

Case doubling time as of Aug. 24 is every 9.79 days. Mortality doubling time is every 14.37 days.

Meanwhile, 49 percent of intensive care unit beds dedicated for coronavirus patients nationwide are occupied at present; 48 percent of isolation beds, 51 percent of ward beds, and 28 percent ventilators.

In the National Capital Region, 67 percent of ICU beds exclusively for COVID-19 cases are in use, 70 percent of isolation beds, 82 percent of ward beds, and 41 percent of ventilators are occupied as of Monday.
