COVID-19 cases among Coast Guard frontliners down to 77

Cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) among Philippine Coast Guard frontliners are now down to 77 as 1,492 of infected personnel have already recovered.

 A total of 171 new recoveries were reported during the period of September 11 to 22 while 102 new cases were recorded during the same period, bringing the total tally of cases in the organization to 1,569.

 The organization also reported 18 reinfections among its force. No deaths have been recorded.

“The health condition of infected Coast Guard frontline personnel are regularly monitored, most especially the 18 cases of reinfection as of yesterday, September 22 – three of whom remain active, while 15 others have successfully recovered for the second and third time of reinfection,” the Coast Guard said Wednesday.

Aside from the regular conduct of swab testing, the Command also ensures the regular supply of vitamins, personal protective equipment sets, and medical supplies, and nutritious meals, it added.

The organization also implement a strategic deployment to ensure that frontline personnel have rest periods and work breaks.

They have also been using UV lights to augment the manual disinfection of workstations and billeting areas.

Admiral George Ursabia, Coast Guard commandant, said that “any day this month, the Command is set to formally open its very own quarantine facility that can accommodate up to 224 frontline personnel at one time.”

The facility will allow the Coast Guard Medical Service to better manage the active COVID-19 cases within the organization for their speed recovery and rehabilitation.
