CIMB, Ateneo collaborate to drive financial inclusion through academic partnership

CIMB Bank Philippines inks an academic partnership with the Ateneo Business Resource Center of the Ateneo de Manila University John Gokongwei School of Management (JGSOM). As part of the bank’s ongoing financial advocacy campaign, the collaboration aims to drive financial inclusion and access in the country by developing future leaders in the online banking space.

First of its kind, the partnership is a unique collaboration between a renowned university and leading financial institution on digital and embedded banking. Ateneo JGSOM and CIMB Bank PH will co-develop digital banking courses and case studies for Ateneo JGSOM’s finance, management, and marketing undergraduate students. The collaboration also includes the implementation of an exclusive internship program and management associate placements with CIMB for Ateneo JGSOM students.

Launched in 2018, CIMB Bank is a leader in digital and embedded banking in the Philippines. It pioneered a fully mobile and digital savings and loan account application process that only took under 10 minutes and required zero fees. It also continues to offer high savings interest rates and accessible credit products for its 7 million customers in the country.

“With CIMB as a pioneer in the online banking space in the country and a one of ASEAN’s leading banking groups, we are excited to partner with them for this endeavor to push our mutual agenda of social inclusivity and nation-building. Through this partnership, our students will drive financial inclusion and accessibility through digital banking and help ensure that more Filipinos are banked,” said Dr. Norman Tanchingco, Marketing & Law Department Chair of the Ateneo de Manila University John Gokongwei School of Management.

“We are honored to partner with Ateneo de Manila University, a renowned educational institution, to shape the future of banking for the next generation of Filipinos,” shared CIMB Bank Chief Executive Officer Vijay Manoharan. “This is a great example of how businesses can work with educational institutions to co-create solutions that benefit society. We are confident that this partnership will pave the way for more collaborations in the future and contribute to BSP’s financial inclusion goals and Digital Payments and Transformation Roadmap.”
