400 4Ps leaders in Caloocan City learn proper waste disposal
The Caloocan City government conducted on Thursday, March 30, a virtual orientation for 400 parent leaders of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) on proper waste disposal as part of the city’s Family Development Sessions (FDS).
The orientation was spearheaded by the Caloocan City Social Welfare Development Department (CSWDD) and the City Environmental Management Department (CEMD).
Through FDS, we can further expand the capacity of 4Ps members to give them more knowledge in meeting the needs of their families and encourage them to participate in addressing the issues in our society as well as the development of our city) ,” Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo Along Malapitan said.
The city government tackled various topics including city ordinances, prohibited materials used in the city such as plastic, benefits of proper waste segregation, the no segregation, no collection policy, and difference among biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and recyclable wastes.
Malapitan said the city government will continuously conduct clean-up drives and urged the public’s cooperation in maintaining the city's cleanliness.
Patuloy po naming lilinisin ang lungsod subalit mas mapapabilis at mapapanatili po natin ito kung tutulungan ninyo kami (Let's do our part to fulfill our dream of a better Caloocan. We will continue to clean the city but we can make it faster and maintain it if you help us),” Malapitan said.
City Environmental Management Department Head Paul Ryan Castillo urged the participants to use their newly-acquired learnings and practice them in their homes and communities.
I hope you learned a lot from us and that you can apply these new knowledge to your homes and communities. This is a big part of our effort and preparation during the rainy season, apart from avoiding floods, we can definitely avoid diseases caused by garbage),” Castillo stated.
Meanwhile, Caloocan City Social Welfare Development Department Action Officer Roberto Quizon encouraged the city residents to work with the city government in its programs for the environment.
The 4Ps is a poverty reduction program that provides grants to poor families for the imporvement of their health and nutrition, as well as the education of children.
