Bataan posts 3 more COVID-19 deaths; 79 new infections recorded
BALANGA CITY, Bataan (PNA) – The death toll from coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the province rose to 24 after registering three new fatalities based on the latest report of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) here.
Governor Albert Garcia said Saturday the three patients who died from the virus were a 78-year-old female and 55-year-old male, both from Mariveles, and a 59-year-old female from Pilar.
Garcia said the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the province continued to increase with the addition of 79 new infections for a total tally of 1,453.
As a result, the number of active cases reached 647.
The governor said contact tracing showed that 50 of the 79 new confirmed cases had close contact with those previously tested positive of the virus.
They were 21 from Mariveles, 14 from Limay, seven from Orion, five from Balanga City, two from Dinalupihan, and one from Orani.
Sixteen in-patients in a hospital here also were tested positive of the virus -- 15 from Mariveles and one from Abucay.
Also found infected were five health workers -- four from Mariveles and one from Balanga City.
The rest of the confirmed cases are four from Mariveles, three from Limay, and one from Dinalupihan.
The PHO report showed 782 have recovered after the new recoveries of 41 with 22 coming from Mariveles, eight from Balanga City, five each from Dinalupihan and Limay and one from Orion.
Of 16,741 who were tested for the virus, 1,453 were positive, 14,958 tested negative and 330 were still waiting for the results.
