2,611 new COVID-19 cases recorded, bringing PH total to 316,678

More than 2,600 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed Friday, the fourth straight day that the country had less than 3,000 cases reported in a day.

The country now has 316,678 COVID-19 cases with 2,611 new infections, the Department of Health (DoH) reported in its latest case bulletin.

There are 56,445 active cases still undergoing treatment -- 87 percent are mild, 8.8 percent are asymptomatic, 1.3 percent are severe, and 2.9 percent are in critical condition.

Most of the new infections were still detected in the National Capital Region with 1,084, followed by Cavite with 202, Iloilo with 182, Bulacan with 163, and Rizal with 132.

The DoH also reported that 416 more patients have recovered, bringing the total recoveries to 254,617, while 56 new deaths brought the death toll to 5,616 -- 43 occurred in September, six in August, five in July, one in May, and one in April.

The country has 138 licensed laboratories that have tested over 3.5 million people.

The Philippines ranked 20th in the most number of COVID-19 cases worldwide, according to the data of US-based Johns Hopkins University.

There have been 33,842,281 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 1,010,634 deaths globally, the World Health Organization said.
