15 more Filipinos abroad infected with Coronavirus

The Department of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday reported 15 new confirmed COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019), 17 new recoveries, and only 1 new fatality among Filipinos abroad.

In its daily update, the DFA said the new confirmed cases and new recoveries were recorded in Asia and the Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa. 

So far, the Middle East remains to be the region with the most number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, recoveries, under treatment, and fatalities among Filipino nationals.

The Americas now has the least numbers in all categories compared to other geographic regions, except in the total number of deaths, wherein Asia and the Pacific rank lowest with only 8 fatalities.

As of today, the total number of cases among overseas Filipinos is 10,329, of which, 2,885 are undergoing treatment, 6,571 have recovered and 773 died due to the disease.

Meanwhile, the DFA has repatriated a total of 174,039 overseas Filipinos from various regions around the world since the COVID-19 outbreak began in February this year.

Of the total number of repatriates, 61,716 are sea-based workers (35.46 percent) while 112,323 (64.54 percent) are land-based. 

Last week, the Philippine government also assisted the return of a cancer patient via a special commercial repatriation flight from Thailand.
