1,048 PNP personnel battling COVID-19 but recovery rate is high
More than 1,000 personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) are still battling the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) but the recovery rate among the police force is high.

PNP spokesman Col. Ysmael Yu said the recovery rate is at more than 80 percent, or 5,093 of the 6,158 of the total number were already cleared of the coronavirus infection.
Almost all of the COVID-19 cases in the PNP were a result of the deployment of policemen as front liners, or those manning the border control points and conducting community patrol to enforce the quarantine rules.
Based on the PNP data, a total of 1,048 PNP personnel are classified under active cases. The infected PNP personnel are being treated in medical and isolation facilities of the PNP.
A total of 17 policemen died of COVID-19, most of them in Metro Manila which is considered as the epicenter of the coronavirus infection.
On Sunday, the PNP recorded 75 new cases.
But despite the daily increase in infection, Yu said the law enforcement function of the PNP remains unaffected.
