Zamora: Malls in San Juan City temporarily closed starting March 15; curfew ordinance to follow

Some malls in Metro Manila earlier announced that they have adjusted their operating hours, In the emergency meeting of the Metro Manila Council on Saturday, Zamora said mayors of 17 local government units in the metropolis have agreed to close shopping malls in their respective localities. The local chief executives have also agreed to set a curfew for their constituents from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. He said the LGUs will have to pass their own ordinances in order for the curfew to be implemented. In a Viber message to reporters, Zamora said the ordinance needed for the implementation of the curfew in San Juan will be out by tomorrow. “I will be convening the San Juan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council tomorrow (Sunday), and then the San Juan City Council will have a special session,” he said. Aside from shopping malls, churches in the city were not spared the threat of the disease. Zamora said masses in Pinaglabanan Church, Santuario de Santo Cristo, Mary the Queen, and Santuario de San Jose were cancelled. “The faithful can still hear mass through the Catholic Churches’ social media pages,” the mayor said. “Everyone is advised to stay in their homes and observe social distancing and proper hand washing.” Amid the threat of COVID-19, President Duterte has placed Metro Manila under “community quarantine” which takes effect on midnight of March 15. As of Saturday night, there are 111 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country as the Department of Health recorded 13 new cases.
