Wearing a white t-shirt bearing the logo of Angat Buhay, Robredo made her first stop at the municipal covered court in Mendez-Nuñez, Cavite for the distribution of relief packs before she proceeded to towns of Nasugbu, Tuy, and Lian, Batangas.
“Angat Buhay” is Robredo’s flagship anti-poverty program that donated the additional relief to the evacuees in partnership with the private sector.
This time, she personally distributed 1,500 hygiene kits, sleeping mattresses, and blankets, and also 1,500 food packs that contained 1.5 kilos of rice, assorted canned goods, and two packs of noodles.
In the Tuy town, Robredo set up a community kitchen to serve hot meals for evacuees.
The vice president and her team went to Batangas last week to conduct relief operations and also assess what the other urgent needs of affected residents in evacuation centers.
Batangas Vice Governor Mark Leviste accompanied Robredo during her second visit to the evacuation centers.
Robredo said she was elated over the “bayanihan” spirit demonstrated by Filipinos to come together and help the victims of the Taal Volcano eruption.
“Masaya, dahil nakikita natin iyong bayanihan parang (I’m happy, because we are seeing the community spirit) in its truest form,” she said when interviewed in Tuy, Batangas.
Robredo then lauded the efforts of local officials in response to the calamity.
“Kapag kinausap iyong mga evacuees, wala silang reklamo sa pag-asikasong ginagawa sa kanila. Talaga lang iyong pinaka-worry ng lahat iyong uncertainty kung hanggang kailan ito matatapos (When you talk to the evacuees, they have no complaints on how they are being taken care of. The only worry of evacuees is uncertainty on when this will end),” she said.
The Office of the Vice President also cited the Angat Buhay partners who donated the relief goods, among them: the Vice Squad, Malaruhatan Country Club, Uratex, RAF International Forwarding Phils., and St. Theresa’s College of Quezon City Alumni Association; Physicians for Peace, Latter Day Saints Charities, Bayo, Unica Hija, Manuelita Contreras, Scale Experts, Inc. CDO Foodsphere, and various donors in partnership with Kaya Natin! Movement, among others.
Both Batangas and Cavite are under a state of calamity, with more than 30,000 people fled their homes due to the Taal Volcano eruption.
