CAGAYAN – An indignation rally led by the Sentrong Alyansa ng mga Mamamayan para sa Bayan (Sambayanan)-Cagayan Chapter was held in Gattaran town in this province on Wednesday, March 29, to denounce the atrocities of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).

The Sambayanan-Cagayan Chapter is an organization of former rebels.

About 500 individuals from the government agencies, local government units, religious groups, youth sectors, army, and police troops joined and supported the activity with the theme: “TALNA ken KAPYA: TALikuran NA ang karahasan; KAPayapaan ay YAkapin!”

Carrying posters and tarpaulins, the marchers called for an end to the NPA’s terroristic activities, including extortion, harassment, and deception of the civilians.

The former rebels burned the flag of the terrorist Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front in an utter show of their allegiance to the government.

Some of the participants took an oath of allegiance to the government and signed a pledge of commitment to supporting the campaign against insurgency.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Fernyl G. Buca, commander of the Northern Luzon Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), lauded the various sectors' active participation in the call for peace in the country.

He also urged them to continue promoting peace and development.

Maj. Gen. Buca said the support from different sectors, particularly the youth, to the government's advocacy for peace and development was enormous and resounding.

“Expect the support of NOLCOM, AFP in your vision for peace and development,” the AFP official said.
