Vice President Leni Robredo will return to calamity-stricken Batangas on Tuesday to bring more relief assistance to the victims of the Taal Volcano eruption.

(Charlie Villegas, OVP / MANILA BULLETIN) On her Sunday radio show, Robredo said she will join the Angat Buhay team who were left in the province to further assess the condition of evacuees. “Babalik ako para maasikaso iyong ibang pangangailangan. Ganoon naman kami kapag sakuna whether bagyo, lindol. Hindi naming iniiwan hangga’t hindi pa tapos,” Robredo said during her “BISErbisyong Leni” program. (I will go back there to take care of the other needs. We usually do that in times of calamities whether it is a typhoon or earthquake. We don’t leave the affected areas until we are able to finish the relief work.) The Vice President, however, did not identify the municipalities, where she will give relief for the second time to evacuees, pending the assessment of her staff members on the ground. “I will go there on Tuesday, but I don’t know exactly where. The assignment of our team is to assess which areas lack assistance and we will go there,” she said in Filipino. Robredo’s office plans to set up community-based kitchens to serve the affected residents. The lady official said she suggested to Batangas Vice Governor Mark Leviste to assign volunteers in the community kitchens. Last week, Robredo visited some evacuation centers in the towns of Sta. Teresita, Sto. Tomas, and San Jose for the distribution of 1,000 face masks and 2,101 food packs. Batangas is under a state of calamity, with more than 30,000 people who fled their homes due to the Taal Volcano eruption. Robredo thanked the donors who heeded her call to give relief goods through her anti-poverty program, Angat Buhay, for the evacuees. The Office of the Vice President received various donations that included toiletries, sleeping mats, cookies, and bottled water. Still, she said that portable toilets are much-needed in evacuation centers. “Kami po sinusubukan namin kahit papaano makagaan sa dala-dala ninyo pero kung mayroon pa po kaming hindi naibibigay na kailangang kailangan ninyo, ipaabot lang po at gagawin namin ang lahat para matulungan kayo,” she said. (We are trying to somehow ease your burden but if there are urgent needs that we were not able to provide, just let us know and we will do everything we can to help.)
