Issuing Advisory No. 18, series of 2020, POEA Administrator Bernard Olalia advised all OFWs going to Hong Kong and Macau that they need to declare their knowledge about COVID-19 and the possible risks that may come with it.
Olalia noted that consistent with the declaration of the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-EID) contained in IATF Resolution No. 06 dated Feb. 18, “the public is hereby advised that overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), whether returning or newly-hired, can be allowed to travel to Hong Kong SAR (Special Administrative Region) and Macao SAR upon execution of a declaration signifying their knowledge and understanding of the risks involved in the current health developments caused” by the COVID-19.
POEA noted that aside from declaring that they are “fully informed” by local authorities on COVID-19, the OFWs were also directed to “comply with the medical and health protocol in the Philippines and the country/territory where they are staying in.” POEA said this document should be notarized.
