The Philippine National Police (PNP) deployed on Friday at least 1,017 police personnel to Batangas and Cavite to help in the evacuation of affected residents amid the ongoing unrest of Taal volcano.

Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, the chief directorial staff, said the deployed cops are members of the PNP Reactionary Standby Support Force (RSSF) who were mobilized on the orders of Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa, PNP officer-in-charge.
Eleazar said 693 cops were sent to Batangas while 324 were deployed to Cavite. They were given face masks and goggles for their protection.
"In places where people would not dare to go, we rise to take the challenge of going there because this is what we do, this is what we are as members of the police force," Eleazar said at the send-off ceremony at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
The deployment will replace the initial batch of cops who were mobilized to aid in the evacuation.
Most of the policemen initially tapped for disaster response since Sunday are local residents of affected areas in Batangas and Cavite, Eleazar said. "I believe they also deserve a break to be with their families, to attend to the needs of their affected families and relatives."
Aside from evacuation efforts, the cops were also told to assist in relief and other disaster-response efforts in the affected areas.
