Phivolcs clarifies policy on forced evacuation

"Example po, Tagaytay City, doon sa ridge, national road. Nasa loob iyon ng 14 kilometers, pero dahil mataas na po ang elevation noon, hindi sila aabutin ng base surge so dapat hindi iyon ini-evacuate," he clarified. He said people tend to generalize that if they are inside the danger zone, they need to evacuate. Solidum said there are at least two barangays in the lower part of Tagaytay and some areas near the shoreline of Lipa City, Batangas that should evacuate. “Kunyare sa Lipa, nasa plateau, malayo po iyon, mataas po ‘yon kumpara sa loob ng Taal Lake,” he continued. “’Yun lang nasa shoreline at malapit dito ‘yung delikado,” Solidum added. Phivolcs said Alert Level 4 remains hoisted over Taal Volcano, warning about a possible hazardous explosive eruption within hours or days, since it first spewed ash last Sunday.
