PH sets new single-day record for COVID-19 cases at 6,352

The Philippines recorded on Tuesday its highest single-day number of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections at 6,352, raising the total number of cases to 112,593.

The Department of Health (DOH) said the previous record-high was last August 2 with 5,032 cases.

The number of those who recovered rose to 66,049 as 240 new patients got well, while 11 new fatalities were recorded, raising the death toll to 2,115.

“There were 89 duplicates that were removed from the total case count. Of these, 12 recovered cases have been removed. These numbers undergo constant cleaning and validation,” the DOH said.

Most of the new cases were from the National Capital Region with 3,139; Laguna, 592; Cavite, 550; Rizal, 277; and Cebu, 261.

“The DOH, together with other agencies and LGUs will address the rise in cases at the root through stricter enforcement of localized lockdowns and primarily through the implementation of the Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (CODE),” the agency said in a statement.

“More than increasing hospital beds and HCW (healthcare workers) count, the revitalized strategy that we are co-developing with medical societies entails a more substantial forward plan to address our current situation. This plan does not just involve addressing logistical gaps, but also enhanced implementation of quarantine and isolation measures among many other facets,” it added.

The DOH once again reminded the public to observe the basic precautionary measures to help in curbing the spread of COVID-19.

“Pinapaalalahanan natin ang publiko na sumunod sa ating mga health protocols at minimum public health standards. Maghugas ng kamay, tamang pagsuot ng mask at physical distancing, malaki po ang magagawa ng mga ito kontra COVID ,” the DOH said.
